about us

Imagine labouring away for hours rolling hundreds of perfectly round rotis, cutting them, folding them and filling them to create little spice-packed samosas. This is how the first Surti Indian Samosas were made.

It all started over 15 years ago by husband and wife - Hina (left) and Vinod (right), in the kitchen of their small family home. At the time, they started by producing samosas for a handful of Auckland Hotels. The production was minimal, however there was belief that the business had the potential to grow. With the little money they had, a small shop was set up in Panmure, Auckland where, after leaving their jobs, they begun to build the company.

Of the two, Hina is the chef and creator. Over the years, she has developed a deep understanding of authentic Indian food that was passed down from her mother from a young age. With her skills, she was able to master the art of samosa-making and ensured that every morsel was up to the highest standard possible. Together with Vinod’s entrepreneurship, customer focus and pure willingness to succeed, they were able to create strong customer relationships among the Auckland Indian market.

As the business continued to grow beyond the walls of our small plant, we decided to pack up shop and move to a purpose-built factory, where with a few new gadgets, we increased our production capabilities and expanded our customer base.

With the samosas running at full swing, we were able to expand our products and services to include natural yoghurt and contract manufacturing. What was “Surti Indian Samosa” became “Surti” to encompass our ever-expanding capabilities.

Hina and Vinod

Over the years, Surti has been a big part of Vinod and Hina’s lives and inherently that of their two sons. Surti is truly a family business where each member is involved and plays their part. The eldest, Kishan with a background of food technology, manages Surti’s food safety program and ensures that we operate at the highest of standards. The youngest Shyam has also joined the business in 2018 to take the company into the next generation.
